In this article, I’m going to provide a product round-up of the best kitchen utensils in each category and provide you with a list of all the brands that manufacture kitchen utensils in the USA.

Best Kitchen Utensils Made in the USA

Kitchen utensils that are entirely made in the USA are few and far between, but I’ve compiled a comprehensive list here. For brands to qualify as US-made, they need to be wholly manufactured in the USA and not just assembled here.

Lamson Slotted Turner- Best Metal Utensils Made in the USA

Best Metal Kitchen Utensil
Lamson Chef’s Slotted Turner
4.5

This Lamson Turner is an elegant but practical choice perfect for turning proteins or pancakes. The edge of the tuner is sharp, and the metal is thin. This means it slides easily between the ingredients and the pan without damaging the caramelized surface of your food. Slotted turner is best for delicate ingredients.

  • Heat and corrosion resistant
  • Left and right handed available
  • Lifetime warranty

Best Nylon Kitchen Utensils
Hutzler LOPOL Nylon Utensil Set
4.8

This nylon set is fiberglass-reinforced to improve its heat resistance and strength. This means there's no risk of your utensils melting in a hot pan. But, at the same time, they are delicate enough to use on your nonstick pans without scratching them.

The whole set is pretty thorough with a lot of options, but I foresee the pointed spatula and the serving fork being the least used out of all the options.

Quick Overview:

  • Material: Nylon
  • What’s included: Large serving spoon, slotted ladle, solid ladle, solid turner, slotted spatula, serving fork, slotted spoon, pointed spatula

Pros

  • Great value for money

Cons

  • White stains easily
  • Serving fork not as useful as other items

The turners come in three different sizes, so you can choose the perfect one for your needs. The small and medium spatulas are great for flipping pancakes and burgers. The larger one is best for deeper pots and turning items that could spit oil. They can also be used as salad spoons and even bench scrapers to help with cleanup.

Quick Overview:

  • Material: Mexican ebony wood, Jatoba wood, Bloodwood
  • What’s included: Small, medium, and large turners

Pros

  • Good price for three pieces
  • Safe for all cookware
  • Handmade

  • Thinness can make them flimsy

Copper State Forge Hand-Forged Serving Set- Best Luxury Utensils Made in the USA

Best Luxury Utensils
Copper State Forge Hand-Forged Serving Set
4.3

A serving set wouldn’t make it to my essential cookware items, but if you’re going to choose a luxury piece, I don’t think you can look past the Copper State Forge Hand-Forged Serving Set

Copper State Forge is best known for its carbon steel, but it also offers a small range of utensils. They are all hand-forged with a hammered appearance that will stun your guests.

Since these utensils are carbon steel, they are preseasoned to prevent rusting. This also means they’re only suitable for stainless steel, carbon steel, and cast iron cookware, as well as some glass or wood serving bowls.

Quick Overview:

  • Material: Carbon steel
  • What’s included: Two-tined fork and a large spoon

Pros

  • Handmade
  • Attractive appearance
  • Durable

Cons

  • Needs to be seasoned

There is a good variety of utensils included in this set that can be used on any cookware, from hardy stainless steel to fragile nonstick.

Since these are wooden, it’s very important to wash them carefully and not leave them submerged. Make sure they are completely dry before you store them away.

Quick Overview:

  • Material: Black cherry, walnut or maple
  • What’s included: Slotted spoon, large spoon, risotto spoon, fork, spatula

Pros

  • Small business

If you’re looking for a great American-made grill utensil then the HIC Kitchen Dexter Russell Burger Turner is the perfect choice for you.

This large metal turner is useful for burgers and other proteins as well as vegetables. It can even be used to flip pancakes on a cast iron pan because the edges are rounded, so they don’t damage the seasoning on the pan.

What makes it work so well is the thin tapered edge that makes it easy to lift your ingredients.

This turner is ideal for the grill, stainless steel, cast iron, and carbon steel cookware, but it will scratch enamel or nonstick quite easily.

Quick Overview:

  • Material: Stainless steel with walnut handle
  • What’s included: One burger turner

Pros

  • Great for the grill
  • Rounded edges won’t damage pan seasoning
  • Thin blade easy to get under food

RADA Plastic Kitchen Utensil Set- Best Nylon/Plastic Utensils Made in the USA

Best Nylon/Plastic Utensils
RADA Plastic Kitchen Utensil Set
4.0

If you need utensils that are guaranteed not to scratch even the most sensitive of cookware, the RADA Plastic Kitchen Utensil Set is the one you need. The BPA-free plastic is heat-resistant and dishwasher-safe, so they are very easy to work with.

Honestly, I find this set to be lacking in a lot of ways, but it’s the only set like it made in the USA. The meat chopper is probably going to gather dust in your cupboard. But the skimmer actually has more uses than the name suggests. It is essentially a wide-slotted spoon, so it can be used for many more purposes than skimming. I think this set would be much better if it had a large spoon or a turner included.

Quick Overview:

  • Material: BPA-free plastic
  • What’s included: Potato masher, meat chopper, pasta server, skimmer

Pros

  • Can be used on all cookware
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Heat resistant

Cons

  • Meat chopper is not useful
  • Excludes many essential items
  • Expensive for plastic

What Does a Complete Set of Utensils Look Like?

There are so many kitchen utensils and gadgets on the market, and, to be honest, a lot of them are gimmicky. If you cook a lot, there is a core set of utensils you will find yourself using regularly that you want to spend your money on. The key is to avoid single-use utensils, as they will just end up cluttering up your kitchen. A good kitchen utensil is adaptable and uncomplicated.

Finding a great kitchen utensil set that covers all the bases is, unfortunately, nearly impossible, especially one made in the US. You can get the basics in a small set, but you will need to supplement it with individual items.

Here is a list of what I consider to be a complete set of utensils:

  • Pasta spoon
  • Large spoon
  • Slotted spoon
  • Tongs
  • Whisk
  • Pastry brush
  • Silicone spatula
  • Sharp-edged turner
  • Potato masher
  • Microplane
  • Peeler
complete set of utensils

What Material is Best for Utensils?

I suggest thinking about what kind of cookware you have and choosing a utensil material based on that. Personally, I love silicone for many utensils, but unfortunately, there are no silicone utensils made in the USA currently, so you’ll have to look elsewhere for those.

As a rule of thumb, I only use silicone, plastic, and wooden utensils on enamel cast iron, nonstick, and ceramic cookware. Metal utensils can easily damage these types of cookware, so I reserve them for stainless steel, carbon steel, and cast iron.

List of Made in USA Brands of Kitchen Utensils

As you can see from this roundup, there are very few brands manufacturing kitchen utensils wholly in the USA. Here is a quick list of the brands that offer US-made kitchen utensils that I’ve managed to track down:

  • Copper State ForgeThese have got to be the most beautiful luxury kitchen utensils this country has to offer. Their limited range is manufactured or hand-forged from carbon steel in Goodyear, Arizona.
  • RadaThis company was formed after the First World War when they started manufacturing their range of knives in Waverley, Iowa. Now, they have a wide range of metal and nylon utensils.
  • Gourmac This is a family-run business specializing in nylon utensils. Their products have been made in the USA since 1938.
  • Liberty Tabletop- Primarily focussing on cutlery, this brand also has a limited range of metal kitchen utensils. They manufacture their kitchenware in Massachusetts.
  • LamsonThis brand specializes in metal and wooden utensils manufactured in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts.
  • Whetstone WoodwareThis company has handcrafted wooden kitchen utensils in Silver Lake, Indiana, since 1991.

Conclusion

While US-made kitchen utensils may be hard to come by, I still think there are some really good options available in specific categories. Overall, I really like the Lamson Turner for stainless steel cookware and the RADA Plastic Kitchen Utensil Set for more delicate surfaces.
