  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 burger buns, toasted
  • Optional toppings: pickled jalapeños, sliced banana peppers, or extra cheese!

Instructions

Ingredients

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the diced onion and garlic and saute until fragrant, 1-2 min.
  • Add the green bell pepper and mushrooms. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and fragrant. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the ground beef. Cook over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and fully cooked (about 8 minutes). Drain any excess fat.
  • Return the sautéed veggies to the skillet with the cooked beef. Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Let everything simmer together for 3-4 minutes to combine flavors.
  • Spoon the beef mixture onto toasted burger buns. Lay the slices of provolone cheese directly over the beef mixture. Pop the buns back in the oven for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese.
  • Add any optional toppings, like pickled jalapeños or banana peppers, for extra zing!
